In order to utilize the Auto Insert feature for photos, you need to understand how this functionality works. It is important that your camera and PC clocks are synchronized before using this feature. Please read the knowledge base article on synchronizing your clocks here.
Below are the steps you should use when inspecting an item and taking a picture or multiple pictures. The important thing to remember is that your take the picture first and then use the "Add Issue/Comment Photo" command.
- Document issue or comment by adding quick text or dictation
- Optionally set status
- Take picture with camera
- Say Add Issue/Comment Photo
The reason it needs be done this way is to support ability to insert more that one photo taken to the same [PHOTO] tag and also support taking pictures and adding [PHOTO] tags faster than the variance window.
Camera Variance = 20 seconds
Mode = Last
Structural System/Foundation
12:00:00 – Take Picture - 1
12:00:07 – “Add Issue Photoâ€
12:00:30 – Take Picture - 2
12:00:39 – “Add Issue Photoâ€
This would result in two photos being inserted into two different locations of the issue note for the foundation

12:00:05 – Take Picture - 2
12:00:15 – “Add Issue Photoâ€
12:01:00 – Take Picture – 3
12:02:00 – Take Picture – 4
12:02:10 – “Add Issue Photoâ€
This would result in two photos being inserted into two different locations of the issue note for the foundation.  Picture 1 would be ignored since our mode is set to “Last†which would take last picture in the window from 11:59:55 (time of command – variance of 20) – 12:00:15 (time of command).  Picture 1 and 2 fall within this window, but the last picture is inserted based on the mode.  The next window is from 12:01:50 – 12:02:10 and only Picture 4 falls within this window.  Picture 3 does not fall within any window in this example and will be ignored.

12:00:20 – Take Picture – 3
12:00:25 – “Add Issue Photoâ€
This would result in two photos being inserted into two different locations of the issue note for the foundation. Picture 1 would be ignored since our mode is set to “Last†which would take last picture in the window from 11:59:55 (time of command – variance of 20) – 12:00:15 (time of command).  Just as before Picture 1 and 2 fall within this window, but the last picture is inserted based on the mode. The next window though is from 12:00:16 (1 second past last command because the variance window overlaps the first command) – 12:00:25 (time of command). The window is shortened because the second variance window would overlap the first one.   By doing this, you can issue the add photo command quickly without having to wait for the a period of time.

This would result in all pictures being inserted into two different locations in the issue note for the foundation. Â Picture 1 and 2 will be inserted into the first [PHOTO] tag since they both fall within the 20 second window from the command time of 12:00:15. Â This uses the auto layout functionality that is use when you drag one photo on top of another (moves them side by side).
